Dialling up convenience

The Nourish Trend Report for 2017 looked at convenience, which for the consumer could be defined as, “take me halfway there!” Making yourself readily accessible to consumers is always trending, but lately, some products and services are looking to take convenience to a new level. Moby Mart is a convenience store that comes to you in the form of a driverless vehicle summoned by your smartphone. Walk-in, shop, and pay with your phone. Exit the store, and it drives away to its next customer. Sound like sci-fi? Beta testing is currently underway in Shanghai. Ice cream trucks beware! Baskin-Robbins now offers delivery from over 600 of its stores in the United States. They plan to gradually roll out the paid-delivery service to all 2,500 U.S. locations. A startup company called Cargo is looking to install vending machines in Uber and Lyft vehicles. Customers would be able to browse a menu on their smartphone and pay through the app. Proposed offerings include snacks, headache pills, and phone accessories.
